Kekui Hale

A Five-Year Bridge to Homeownership.

Live. Build. Prepare. Graduate.

Kekui Hale is being designed for working households who earn enough to support themselves but still can't make the leap from renting to owning. Families enter for five years, and leave better positioned to buy a home of their own.

The problem

Working, and still locked out.

Many households can cover rent and their daily lives, yet housing prices, down payments, and the monthly costs of ownership keep homeownership out of reach. The gap between renting and buying can feel impossible to cross alone.

The bridge

Kekui Hale isn't the destination. It's the bridge.

Kekui Hale is not permanent subsidized housing. It's a structured, time-bound step toward ownership.

The residence stays part of the community for the next family. The house doesn't graduate. The family does.

The five-year journey

01

Live

Enter a dignified, well-managed community for a defined five-year period.

02

Build

Build financial stability, savings, and credit while housing is steady.

03

Prepare

Prepare for the realities of buying and owning a home.

04

Graduate

Leave ready to purchase a home you can realistically afford.

Why it exists

A family safety net, made into a model.

Kekui Hale is inspired by a grandmother who gave family members a place to stay while they got on their feet after moving from Hawaiʻi to San Francisco.

Where we are

Phase 1 — Define & Research

We're building the model carefully, researching the questions that matter, and bringing the right people into the process. The financial model, housing configuration, and funding are still being researched.

Help build the bridge.

We're looking for board members, advisors, housing and finance professionals, funders, and community partners.
